Overview
 
Our client is seeking a Litigation Associate to join their defense firm. This role primarily focuses on asbestos litigation and toxic tort defense. You will work under the supervision of partner attorneys to conduct legal research, manage discovery, and assist in trial preparation to build strong defense strategies.
 
Compensation and Benefits:

• Base Salary: $135,000 – $160,000 (Commensurate with experience).

Responsibilities:

• Oversee asbestos and toxic tort defense cases from inception through resolution, including drafting pleadings and trial preparation.
• Manage high-volume discovery processes, including interrogatories, requests for production, and detailed document reviews unique to asbestos litigation.
• Represent clients in court proceedings, hearings, and mediations.
• Prepare for and conduct depositions of fact and expert witnesses.
• Perform exhaustive legal research and draft motions, briefs, and legal memoranda with high attention to detail.
• Maintain proactive communication with clients, providing strategic updates and advice aligned with their goals.
• Lead settlement discussions and negotiations with opposing counsel.

Qualifications:

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
• Must hold an active NJ bar license (and a NY Bar is preferred). 
• At least 2 years of experience in defense litigation is required (Asbestos or Toxic Tort experience is not required)
• Familiarity with state and federal court procedures and rules.
